Formed in Reykjavík in 2021, virgin orchestra combines post-punk with electronic music, sultry dream pop, and noise. Their fusion of digital programming, live instruments, and experimental soundscapes creates a lush atmosphere. The trio, consisting of Rún (cello), Starri (guitar), and Stef (vocals), earned European attention with fragments, their 2023 Berlin-recorded debut released via Smekkleysa/Bad Taste. Following their sophomore album Let It Burn and tours in Germany and Denmark, they garnered praise from Rolling Stone UK, Dazed, and Schön! for their original compositions. This summer, virgin orchestra released the first single from their third album, launching a six-show UK tour of brand-new material as their music continues to gain traction on UK television soundtracks.
