Iceland tops the Global Peace Index for 2021

For 13 years in a row, Iceland has been the most peaceful country.

Iceland continues to be the most peaceful country globally, a position it has held since 2008. It is joined at the top along with New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, and Slovenia.

Eight of the top ten countries in the Global Peace Index (GPI) are located in Europe. This year marks the most European countries ranked in the top ten in the index's history.

The GPI is the world's leading measure of global peacefulness. This report presents the most comprehensive data-driven analysis to date regarding trends in peace, its economic value, and how to promote peaceful societies.
