Pizza Time with Flétta and Ýrúrarí

A family-friendly design event with Icelandic Design Awards winners Flétta and Ýrúrarí and their "2023 Project of the Year," Pizza Time co-presented with visual arts organization Transformer.

Icelandic design teams Flétta and Ýrúrarí will open Pizza Time, co-presented by Transformer, a Washington, D.C.-based 501c3 non-profit visual arts organization that connects, elevates, and serves a diversity of emerging artists across innovative global exhibition and program platforms. Guests can order freshly felted wool pizza slices made of leftovers from the Icelandic wool industry.

The scene of the design performance is built like a small pizza place where customers can see the felted pizza slices being made. Guests can participate by ordering a slice from the menu or selecting toppings to customize the order to their taste and bring home a one-of-a-kind wool pizza slice.

Pizza Time was first performed at DesignMarch in May 2023 and won the title of 'Project of the Year' at the annual Icelandic Design Awards.

Ýrúrarí is known for her playful approach to recycling with her uniquely mended recycled sweaters. She has participated in exhibitions worldwide since she started working as a textile designer ten years ago.

Flétta is made up of product designers Birta Rós Brynjólfsdóttir and Hrefna Sigurðardóttir, who have been working together since 2014. Their practice revolves around responsible design, utilizing reused materials, and local production.
