Stockfish festival is a non-profit organization funded by the professional societies of filmmakers in Iceland. The festival aims to create a platform in Reykjavík to encourage collaboration between domestic and international film communities and allows the general audience to see some of the most up-and-coming art-house films in the world. The festival takes place from March 23 – April 2, 2023, and is hosted in Bíó Paradís.
The festival will screen over 20 international titles, emphasizing films that received nominations and awards at the European Film Awards hosted in Reykjavik in December 2022 that have not yet been shown in Iceland. For the first time, Stockfish 2023 will confer an honorary award for “An outstanding contribution to the film industry,” an approach to bestow prominent professionals from the academic, production, distribution, market, and film festival scenes. The 2023 Stockfish Award will go to Mike Downey.
